9-13-22 THOUGHTS
Ps 56:8 You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are [they] not in Your book?
Barnes notes, “The Romans had a custom, that in a time of mourning — on a funeral occasion — a friend went to one in sorrow, and wiped away the tears from the eyes with a piece of cloth, and squeezed the tears into a small bottle of glass or earth, which was carefully preserved as a memorial of friendship and sorrow.” The sense seems to be, let not my tears fall unnoticed.
In the following, David praises God for deliverance. He notes the cycles of weeping and joy in our lives. Isn’t it true for us that, when times are good for us, we think... “I shall not be moved!” But we are. God is our Rock, He turns our bad times back to good, and sustains THE MEANING OF LIFE through it all. Do not be silent, give thanks and praise His Holy name!
Ps 30:1-12 I will extol You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up, And have not let my enemies rejoice over me. 2 O LORD my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me. 3 O LORD, You have brought up my soul from Sheol; You have kept me alive, that I would not go down to the pit. 4 Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones, And give thanks to His holy name. 5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning. 6 Now as for me, I said in my prosperity, "I will never be moved." 7 O LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong; You hid Your face, I was dismayed. 8 To You, O LORD, I called, And to the Lord I made supplication: 9 "What profit is there in my blood, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your faithfulness? 10 "Hear, O LORD, and be gracious to me; O LORD, be my helper." 11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness, 12 That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.
Isa 26:20 Come, my people, enter into your rooms And close your doors behind you; Hide for a little while Until indignation runs [its] course.
Isa 57:15 For thus says the high and exalted One Who lives forever, whose name is Holy, "I dwell [on] a high and holy place, And [also] with the contrite and lowly of spirit In order to revive the spirit of the lowly And to revive the heart of the contrite.
Ps 16:11 You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.
Ps 36:9 For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.
Ps 126:5-6 Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting. 6 He who goes to and fro weeping, carrying his bag of seed, Shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.
My Prayer:
We praise you and lift you up, O God of deliverance and loving kindness. Your love, and grace and mercy, gives life to our existence. In Jesus we live and hope. Thank you for this great love. Develop our faith and love and lives to maturity in You. Take away silence from our lips, give us a boldness to tell of Jesus. We pray in his name. Amen. [pray for Heather]
